SUMMARY:Sydney Pride Festival 2024
DESCRIPTION:This year’s central themes revolve around Compassion and Courage\, particularly as we commemorate the significance of June in the LGBTQIA+ calendar. Sydney Pride Festival is set to unite the community through a grassroots celebration\, honouring and sharing the history of Pride. The month-long festivities kick off on June 1st at Stonewall Hotel\, culminating in final celebrations on June 30th. \nPride Month in June stands as a powerful platform to amplify LGBTQIA+ voices\, advocate for their rights\, and revel in the rich tapestry of LGBTQ culture. Throughout the month\, diversity is not only demanded but also highlighted and celebrated through talks\, protests\, performances\, and commemorations. The historical roots of Pride Month trace back to the Stonewall uprising on June 28\, 1969\, at the Stonewall Inn in New York. This uprising\, sparked by a violent police raid\, led to the first Pride Parade (Christopher Street Day) in 1970\, laying the foundation for a month dedicated to commemorating\, remembering\, and celebrating diversity. \nPride Month is more than a personal celebration; it is a call for empathy and compassion. It serves as a poignant reminder that every individual\, irrespective of their sexual orientation or gender identity\, deserves respect and understanding. Compassion encourages us to listen\, learn\, and stand against discrimination and prejudice. By fostering a culture of empathy\, we contribute to creating a world that embraces inclusivity and acceptance. \nCourage\, a defining character quality celebrated during Pride Month\, holds profound significance. For many in the LGBTQ+ community\, coming out and living authentically necessitate immense bravery. Confronting societal norms\, potential discrimination\, and standing proud in adversity all demand strength. Pride Month underscores the transformative power of courage\, reminding us that\, by embodying it\, we can establish an environment where everyone feels secure expressing their true selves. \nThe focus of Sydney Pride Festival 2024 will be on commemorating the compassion and courage demonstrated by those who paved the way. It underscores the importance of showing compassion to all and being courageous in sharing our stories and living authentically.

Founded by Jenny Morris\, Art of Music is pure creative genius and is one of the most talked about and memorable fundraisers on the Sydney event circuit. \nArt of Music takes Australia’s music royalty\, pairs them up with some of Australia’s greatest living artists and then unites them with one of the world’s most inspirational charities. Due to the financial impact that COVID-19 has had on the non-profit organisation\, coupled with the heightened demand for services\, the proceeds from the Art of Music 2022 event come at a crucial time for Noro. \n“Art of Music is not to be missed. Amazing art. Amazing music. Put them together and the result is truly magical” – Jimmy Barnes \n“One of the most inspiring and enjoyable nights of the year\, Art of Music combines iconic musicians in full swing\, celebrated artists and their and their latest works\, great food\, fine wine and terrific company” – Hugo Weaving \nA group of top contemporary visual artists each choose a song or musical artist to inspire a piece of artwork. The artists can take their inspiration from the melody\, the lyrics\, the album cover or even the singer. It’s entirely up to them as to how they interpret the music. The artwork is then auctioned during a gala dinner in the spectacular Grand Court of the Art Gallery of New South Wales. \nWithout further ado\, this year’s amazing visual artists and their subjects\, are (in alphabetical order): \nHolly Greenwood: Nobody Gets What They Want Anymore by Marlon Williams and Aldous Harding\nNicholas Harding: Paint My Heart by The Teskey Brothers\nLeila Jeffreys: Bury Me Deep In Love by The Triffids\nLaura Jones: Fall into My Arms by Ngaiire\nGuy Maestri: The Bunyip of Berkeley’s Creek read by Nick Cave\nRobert Malherbe: The Heart is a Muscle by Gang of Youths\nTim Minchin: Airport Piano\nAlex Seton: Solid Rock by Goanna\nJosh Yeldham: Young Blood by The Naked and Famous \nArt of Music 2022 will once again include some very special musical performances highlighting the works of art on display on the night. All totally incomparable and at the top of their game. \n“Tim Minchin has very generously donated a piano for auction. It was decorated by him in his video ‘Airport Piano’ and he will be performing on that very piano. As well as performing with her acoustic line-up\, Kate Ceberano will also perform a duet with the incomparable PJ Harding and Ngaiire will perform her song\, Fall Into My Arms which has been chosen by Laura Jones as inspiration. \nMs Morris added\, “This event could not happen without the huge generosity of our artists and musicians. The expense\, time and energy that they put in is unquantifiable as is the benefit to our NORO clients. My unending thanks and appreciation go out to them all.” \nAll proceeds from the Gala Dinner and Charity Auction go to Noro to provide it’s internationally recognised music programs to assist those less advantaged. Registered Music Therapists use the power of music in live and interactive sessions to help people cope with the struggles of living with a wide range of needs. These include children and adults with physical and intellectual disabilities\, autism\, trauma\, illness\, Dementia\, mental health issues\, behaviour disorders and learning difficulties. \nNoro sees over 1\,500 people a week\, from small babies to elderly Australians\, using music in a variety of programs\, including Mini Rockers for Early Childhood\, Guitars for Vets to support the mental health of returned Service Men and Women\, Guitars for Firies to support the mental health of RFS Volunteers\, all in addition to music therapy programs in their own clinics and at aged care centres\, schools\, disability centres and hospitals. \nTickets to this special event are available now and the booking form is available from – www.artofmusic.com.au
