Greg Gould brings back the 90's with new duets album

He shot to fame on TV as one of the most successful vocalists to ever come out of The Voice Australia and global fame thanks to his viral hit Don't Let Go. caught up with Greg at his sold-out album launch and showcase in Sydney where he performed tracks from the album with some of his duet partners.

The album launch last night was a smash hit, with some incredible performances by some really amazing singers from the pop world. How did you come up with the concept for the album?

Well after the success of Don’t Let Go I figured I was on a roll by taking something nostalgic and giving it a fresh perspective and I was born in 88 and started recording the album in 2018 and when I started researching 90s songs, Billboard music had an article saying that 1998 was the best year of the 90s for music and when I started looking at tracks to cover I couldn’t of agreed more! I never intended to make it a duets album but once it started to come together and the people all started saying yes I thought well it makes sense given that about 10 of the initial 14 tracks had a featured guest vocalist to turn the entire album into a duets project!

As someone who found a national stage through TV and went on to global success online, what was the process like for you going from TV fame to global recognition?

I loved TV land - it was a great experience for me - don’t let go blowing up like that was a real shock and an experience I will never forget and always be grateful for! It took me around the world and became way bigger than I had ever anticipated

You have some incredible duet partners on the album - can you let us in on any secrets on working with these great people?

Be good to people! There’s no secret - build good relationships and be honest and you can achieve anything.

You really have delivered a strong album and kick-ass performances on it, was there anyone on your wish list that you didn't get this time?

Vanessa Amorosi, and actually I didn’t ask her this time around as I wasn’t expecting the ones I got but I would love to do a track with her.

It's always hard to ask a performer what their favourite track on the album is - but do you have one?

Hmmm I’d have to say The Boy Is Mine. It’s special for so many reasons - the arrangement is gorgeous the video is important and the message behind it. I loved working with Peyton and Lynne.

Who have been the biggest influences in your career to date?

Joanne, Peyton and Maria on this project have become like mentors to me but in terms of musical influences John Farnham, John Legend.
Whitney and Beyoncé are two of my biggest vocal influences.

What are your top five favourite pop songs of all time and why?

Oh wow what a question. Ummm this is hard!! In no particular order - Hallelujah- it takes me to a place of calm and the beautiful melody leaves me in the feels, Home by Shoshana Bean - her voice is nuts and it’s such a beautiful song, Don’t Let Go because it’s for me I guess what My Heart Will Go On (in a much much smaller way) is for me - the audience get excited as much as I love singing it for them - it kinda became a version that belongs to the people. Chains by Tina Arena - I used to sing this at the top of my lungs - my all-time favourite album was Don’t Ask and for my last one I’m gonna just say WHITNEY and anything she ever sang - he voice is my favourite voice of all time.

What do you prefer? Singles or albums?

Hmm... I love a good song but I really love to listen to albums in full to appreciate its journey - I tried to really do that with this album

Name one instrument you wished you could play.

Guitar or sax!!

What would be your ultimate line up for a multi-artist pop concert?

Whitney, Michael, Prince, George Michael, Amy Winehouse!

What's next for Greg Gould?

Lots of touring this year and more music! This is gonna be a huge year of hard work and I really can’t wait!

You can get the news single now and pre order the album which is slated for release in April.

Fleetwood Mac provide a Masterclass concert in Sydney

Legendary, GRAMMY-award winning band FLEETWOOD MAC took to the stage of Qudos Bank Arena tonight in Sydney on the second stop of the Australian leg of their current world tour and did not disappoint.

The iconic band, aloing with new band mates, Neil Finn and Mike Campbell have played Perth as well as North America, and the chemistry shows. A flawless presentation of all the bands hits, along with standouts from Crowded House - this was a full show that went for at least two hours.

Steve Nicks and Christine McVie stole the vocal performances of the night, and whilst the staging was a little less than what punters are used to production wise these days on arena tours - it gave the cavernous venue a very intimate feel for all those attending.

A highlight of the night was a number where Stevie ended up disappearing into a wave of golden pixie dust - just spine chilling.

To be honest, I went into the concert not thinking I would know that many songs as Fleetwood Mac was - I thought - a tad before my time, but the songs were all familiar classics, that I never really attributed to the band - my fault I know - but I am instantly heading on over to iTunes and buying some of the tracks that resonated with me thanks to the show.

The musicianship of each individual member of the lineup was stellar on its own, but combined - this was a concert that goes down in the annals of history as one not to miss. Even if you are not a die hard fan of the band - this is a masterclass in what a band should be like.

Fleetwood Mac’s massive national arena tour continues in Sydney on August 17, 27 and 29, Brisbane on August 20, 22 and 24, and concluding with four shows in Melbourne on September 2, 4, 7 and 9. Produced by Live Nation, the tour will feature the new line-up of Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Stevie Nicks, and Christine McVie along with newcomers Mike Campbell and Neil Finn.

Get a Taylor Swift education!

OMFG! Has to be the defining statement of the Sydney stadium show on the Reputation Tour from Taylor Swift.

Held at the still VERY functional ANZ Stadium (why are they want'ing to rebuild it???) We rocked up early to the event to take in the full FESTIVAL style environment that was around the venue... hundreds of food vendors, drinks stands, massive merchandise stores and tens of thousands of fans dressed up in their Friday best, donning costumes blazoned with song lyrics and motivational quotes from the singer.

The fans were the highlight of this pre-show must do. Especially seeing everyone SLAY the outfit departments and giving props to others how took up the challenge.

There were lots of signs from troupes of fans who have flown from all over the world to see Taylor in Sydney - we clocked fans from Ireland, France, America, and South Africa.

We didn't really know if we were sitting in the nosebleed section or in the carpark - but we didn't care - this pre-show visual fan fest was well worth the trip out to Homebush on its own.

After grabbing our bags of merchandise - we decided to head back and pop it in the car so we didn't have to carry it around the massive stadium the whole night - and thank f**k we did! (more on that later!)

Getting back to the stadium, we entered to find that our amazing friends at Live Nation and #TaylorNation had given us kick ass seats... gobsmacking in fact. Front n' center! I was Instagramming from the moment we got inside (see @poprepublic on insta!)

As older pop fans it was great to have seating near a mosh pit - but those seats weren't required for most of the night cos we were up dancing - taking in the incredible views and having one of the best concert experiences ever! (and that's saying something - after all, we have been around for 20 years doing this stuff!)

Opening act - The Broods - were such a surprise - not cos we thought they were bad - but because they were KICK ASS!

Where have they been???

This New Zealand band is a fresh take on what I could say is a mash-up between Australia's FRENTE (remember them?) and Transvision Vamp! Is NZ worried we are going to claim them for our own again??? nah - we LOVE all things NZ at the mo - you guys are doing so much better than we are politically!

We won't Russell Crowe you! hehehe :) but love the sounds... well done!

The lead singer had an instant presence and the whole band was flawless. The songs were hot and we wanted to get the album right away - only to be told by lead singer Georgia Nott that it will be released in 2019... but we have to give a shout out to Caleb Nott who brought the muso sexy to the stage. #hubbahubba

The kiwi duo and band mates delivered a kick-ass set that made us want to stay in our seats and not go and get a hotdog or chips... that's a real task at a stadium... so #welldone!

Can't wait for the new album!

Second up was the funky and mammoth stage presence that is CHARLIE XCX... the first thing we have to say is that Charlie is a bitch to find on social media (!) when you are standing in the stadium trying to tag her in posts and saying how AMAZING she is!!! This gal is the consummate performer... she is like the A-list graduate from Young Talent Time (aussies will get that reference) and she NAILED every performance.

There were songs in her set that she delivered that we didn't event know were her's... (insert Gwen Stefani reference here) - she was a powerhouse.. a kick ass lady who loves her BOYS BOYS BOYS - as we all do!

It was a pre storm revelation... even knowing that this night was like a sleep over and girls night out rolled into one... thank god we were the gay friends invited cos we had fierce pajamas. ($5  pop - thanks ANZ Stadium!)

You could have cut the air with a knife when the voice over came on to announce there would be a delay on the show due to the storm coming overhead... and don't worry - it was a 38-degree day!

So hot

Lots of people staying undercover under the fierce Aussie sun until show time - but to no avail. Sunburn or getting drenched - those were our two options - we took both! lol

We went to line up in the merchandise line - the ONLY place to get ponchos (at $5 a pop!!!) but we made out own fun with a funny Irish lad and a couple of girls who all wanted ponchos... whilst the 14 uncles with their nieces and nephews tried on every size and variant of t-shirt in the stand - whilst 30-40 years olds behind them wanted to kill them... but we made it fun... so much fun, in fact, it was a great part of the evening - it made the crappy chips from the concessions stand (at $6.50 a punch, not to mention the 600ml coke at 6.50 ) a distant memory -- come on ANZ Stadium... faster lines and cheaper food!

We missed the opening thanks to the voiceover and standing in line for $5 ponchos. Running back to our seats was well worth it...

We got the full pop-tactic Taylor in Stadium view... this girl knows how to deliver a slick product... she has come through the Sydney "gods" baptism of Rain - ala Madonna "Girlie Show" and has claimed her righteous place on the stage of ICONS.

This show was not only a killer set of Tay-tay classics and an introduction to the fandom that she deserves... she really looks after her fans - from the wristbands and lights that light up the stadium... she made it personal and ticked all the boxes.

She has earned the status of global icon.

She is now in the arena of must-see acts!!!!! You have to sell everything to get a good seat to see Tay offer up a show like this! But it is well worth it.

There was a moment we thought the crew would bail - but they didn't - they lived out their fantasies in a huge 70,000 PACKED arena (don't believe what the gutter trash media says - Daily Terror!!!) It was PACKED... we only found TWO other media folks in our massive area on the list - so it was a packed house!!!

They shortened the heels, jumped in puddles from the rain and gave up to the storm and brought out bigger snakes, activated all the flying moments and B & C stage pop-ups that were just fantastic... It was a massive show - and 90% of it was under a massive lightning storm.

Even under wet foot - the crowd which was at capacity and the crew pulled off one of the most produced and well thought out shows of the last decade... she has truly cemented herself amongst the icons of pop like Janet and Madonna. Taylor totally delivered. the screens were incredible and totally blew my mind.

Taylor and her crew - from the ground staff to that awesome on stage cast were just phenomenal... let's just hope next time she starts her world tour in Australia (In Sydney to be precise) and we can then shout it to the world!!!

Rebel Wilson heads to High Court over defamation case

Rebel Wilson will continue her legal battle with Bauer Media, taking the long-running case to the High Court of Appeal.

News Corp is reporting that Rebel has applied for special leave to fight the Victorian Court of Appeal's recent decision, which ordered the actress to pay back $4.1 million of the $4.5 million damages awarded to her in September 2017.

The High Court is the last legal option for Wilson and leaves Bauer with three weeks to provide evidence as to why the Court shouldn't consider her appeal.

If the Court refuses to hear the case, she will be required to pay back the full amount and will be unable to pursue Bauer any further.

Wilson’s landmark defamation payout was slashed to $600,000 as a result of the most recent ruling, but Bauer had already paid out the larger sum.

The actress was originally awarded the full amount – the largest defamation payment ever awarded by an Australian court – for a run of stories across Bauer titles Woman's Day, NW and Australian Women's Weekly in 2015.

Wilson – who had previously not disputed returning the money, which she said was earmarked for charity – has argued about the timing and calculation of the interest payments.

The interest – totalling $60,316 – was charged at 2% from 3 October 2017 until 27 June 2018.

Speaking on behalf of Bauer Media, general counsel, Adrian Goss said:

“We are considering the issues raised by Ms Wilson and our position in relation to them.”

Britney Spears to receive the GLAAD Vanguard Award

The global pop icon has influenced millions of people in the LGBTQ community, and she'll personally attend GLAAD's event on April 12 to receive an accolade recognizing so.

Previous GLAAD Vanguard Award honorees include Jennifer Lopez, Cher, Kerry Washington, Elizabeth Taylor, Whoopi Goldberg, Antonio Banderas, Drew Barrymore, Janet Jackson, Demi Lovato, Eric McCormack, Josh Hutcherson, and Patricia Arquette.

"She has consistently stood up for LGBTQ youth on GLAAD’s Spirit Day by going purple on social media to speak out against bullying," it reads. "In 2015, she released a Spirit Day video and promoted participation in the anti-bullying campaign by organizing a meet-and-greet for LGBTQ fans, washing her stage at Planet Hollywood purple, and providing anti-bullying materials to concertgoers."

"In 2016, she was among over 20 music artists to appear on GLAAD's song “Hands,” released with Interscope Records to remember the 49 lives taken in the Orlando Pulse nightclub shooting. The musical tribute to the victims of Orlando, written by Justin Tranter, Julia Michaels and Blood Pop, benefited Equality Florida, the GLBT Community Center of Central Florida and GLAAD."

"In 2017, Spears was among 140 leading entertainers including Jennifer Lawrence, Ariana Grande, Laverne Cox, and Whoopi Goldberg to speak out in an open letter against two anti-LGBTQ bills, which targeted transgender youth in Texas and were later defeated. Most recently, Spears sparked global attention when she wore a t-shirt stating ‘We Are All Dreamers’ and called on Congress to pass the Dream Act via Instagram."

britney glaadGLAAD also mentions her letter to a young gay man who considered suicide, and credited not going through with it to her music and lyrics – it gave him the courage to continue fighting. She wrote to him: “I was very happy to hear how courageous you’ve been about being openly gay. I’ve always been told as long as you know in your heart that’s what matters most.”

Most recently, for LGBTQ Pride Month in 2017, Queen B penned a heartwarming love letter to the LGBTQ community published in Billboard Pride, telling the community that their unwavering loyalty and acceptance uplift and inspire her. “I have a secret to share with you. You see it’s actually you that lifts me up. The unwavering loyalty. The lack of judgment. The unapologetic truth. Acceptance! Your stories are what inspire me, bring me joy, and make me and my sons strive to be better people.”

And here's something you may not know. After a gay couple who met at the opening of Piece of Me married, Brit surprised them with a touching video to send congratulations and show her support for marriage equality.

"Honored to be receiving the Vanguard Award at the @GLAAD Media Awards this year!," Britney wrote on Instagram. "The LGBTQ community means the absolute world to me and inspires me every day. I am proud to be an ally and I will continue to support equality and acceptance for all!!"

Britney will receive her honor at the 29th annual GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles at Beverly Hilton on April 12.

Britney is also booked to appear in the UK at Brighton Pride as the headliner this year, with the event selling out in seconds.
